Privacy policy
Gooby is a set of free puzzle games with no ads, no accounts and no tracking by other companies. This page explains exactly what leaves your device and why.
Who we are
Gooby (the website at gooby.in, the installable web app and the Android app on Google Play) is made by Gooby, an independent developer. Questions about privacy go to hello@gooby.in.
The short version
- No sign-up. We never ask for your name, e-mail address, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location.
- No ads, no in-app purchases and no advertising or analytics SDKs from other companies.
- Your games are backed up under a random code, so you can move them to another phone. We cannot tell who you are from it.
- We count how the app is used (for example, how many games of Sudoku were finished today) under a separate random id, to decide what to improve.
- We never sell or share data with anyone.
What stays on your device
Games in progress, settings, statistics and everything in Junior mode (its games, levels, the optional age and the optional PIN) are saved in your browser's or the app's storage on your device. Puzzles are bundled with the app or made on the device. Clearing the app's data, or uninstalling it, deletes them.
What we collect, and why
1. Backup of finished games (app functionality)
The first time the app goes online it creates a random user id and device id and receives a restore code (shown in Settings › Backup). After that, each finished game is sent to our server: the game, the puzzle, the result, the time taken, hints used, the final board and the date. Your app settings are backed up too. This lets you see your history on a new phone by entering the restore code. Nothing in the backup is linked to your name, e-mail or phone.
2. Anonymous usage counts (analytics)
The app records simple events under a different random id that is created on your device and is not linked to the backup ids: when the app is opened, which screen is shown and for how long, and when a game starts and ends (game, difficulty, outcome, seconds, hints, score). Each batch also carries the app version, the kind of device system (Android, iOS, Windows…), whether it runs as the Play Store app, an installed app or a web page, and the country our hosting provider works out from the connection. We use these counts only to see which games people play and where the app needs work. They are kept for at most three months.
3. Connection data
Like every website, our hosting provider receives your IP address and browser details when the app loads or talks to our server. We use them only to deliver the app and keep it secure, and we do not store IP addresses with your backup or usage counts.
Who processes the data
Gooby runs on Cloudflare (Workers, R2 storage and Analytics Engine), which stores and processes the data above for us, under its own privacy commitments, and nothing else. We do not share data with any other company, and we never sell it. Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
If you install Gooby from Google Play, Google handles the download and may collect information under its own policies; Gooby receives none of it.
How long we keep it
- Backup: until you ask us to delete it, or until we close the service.
- Usage counts: up to three months.
- Data on your device: until you clear the app's data or uninstall it.
Your choices and deleting your data
- To delete your backup, e-mail hello@gooby.in with your restore code (Settings › Backup) and we will delete every game and setting stored under it within 30 days. Without the code we cannot find your data, because we do not know who you are. More on the support page.
- Usage counts cannot be traced back to you and expire on their own after three months.
- Clearing the app's data or uninstalling it removes everything on the device, including the random ids.
Children
Gooby is a general puzzle app. Junior mode is a mode that a parent or guardian sets up and locks for a child. It has no ads, purchases, chat, links out of the app or accounts, and its progress stays on the device and is not backed up. While Junior mode is open, the anonymous usage counts above still record which screens are shown, which contains nothing about the child. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think we have, write to hello@gooby.in and we will delete it.
Permissions
The Android app asks for no special permissions beyond internet access. It does not use the camera, microphone, contacts, location or files, and it sends no notifications.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect changes, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
